A Gift to Family – Your Advanced Care Directive

A Gift to Family – Your Advanced Care Directive

As I’ve previously mentioned, A WAY TO STAY gives volunteer time to the BCHIP Respecting Choices initiative to change the culture around advanced planning for end-of-life care. Our grand goal is to increase the number of people with Advanced Care Directives in Pennsylvania from 20% to 99%. Doing this will save families (and hospital staff) from heartache when death comes for a loved one. Conversation and documentation about one’s wishes for end-of-life care help decrease the family’s agitation about what kind of care should be provided.

Devon and I spent a good part of today at Aria Health’s Stroke Conference with 150+ nurses, doctors and others who give care at Aria’s hospitals. We distributed information about the Respecting Choices Advanced Care Directive program that Aria Health supports through their membership in BCHIP (Bucks County Health Improvement Partnership). The head of the Aria Bucks hospital Ann Marie Reid understands how important it is to change the current culture of denial to one of comfortable acceptance of end-of-life planning. She is in it for the long haul.

The conference was informative… Devon and I are now armed with valuable information on strokes and a better understanding of what the Ethics Board at Aria faces. Herb Patrick MD led an amazing panel discussion.

And in closing!!! Call us at A WAY TO STAY Home Care. We happy to talk about your home care needs and point you in the right direction if we can’t help. A WAY TO STAY is a home care agency providing In-Home Care in Yardley – Newtown. We are Live-In Care Specialists.
